David Nahai, environmental attorney, political activist, and former head of the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power has agreed to join the Leadership Council, the primary advisory board of both Cleantech Los Angeles (CLA) and the Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator (LACI). As the former General Manager and Commission President of the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP), Nahai led the origination and execution of the City’s groundbreaking Water Supply Plan, attainment of historic reductions in water consumption in the City, and unprecedented expansion of the utility’s renewable energy portfolio to 15% (paving the way for the attainment of the 20% level by 2010.

"We formed the Leadership Council when CLA merged with LACI in order to provide a forum for the region’s environmental leaders. We look to the Leadership Council to give our organizations the strategic and policy guidance that is crucial in bringing the region together. I can think of no one better qualified to join the Leadership Council than David Nahai, whose grasp of the challenges and opportunities we face is unique," said Fred Walti, Executive Director, LACI and CLA.

The Leadership Council meets monthly in addition to conducting special events to further the innovation and commercialization of clean technologies throughout the region. The Leadership Council hosted all five Mayoral candidates for a Cleantech Forum and has hosted such luminaries as Hilda Solice, Secretary of Labor, Lisa Jackson, EPA Administrator, Nancy Sutley, Chair of the President’s Council for Environmental Quality, and Arun Majumdar, Director of ARPA-E among others.

“I was delighted to join the Leadership Council when Fred asked me as the region needs close coordination and collaboration among its stakeholders. The Leadership Council is an ideal vehicle for just such a mission and I look forward to working closely with LACI and CLA in growing the region’s green economy and innovation ecosystem. I especially look forward to helping launch its Global Connect program aimed at bringing international companies to LA,” said David Nahai, President of David Nahai Companies.
