The audience of a recent webinar ranked prescription adherence as the number one area where the pharmaceutical industry can support patient engagement.

The webinar “Perfect Storm or Perfect Opportunity? The Convergence of Healthcare Reform and Increased Emphasis on Quality Measurement” focused on ways to overcome the challenges and capitalize on the opportunities presented by healthcare reform to the benefit of all parties: patients, providers, payers, and the pharmaceutical industry.

The webinar panelists – bryantBROWN Healthcare partner Bob Brown, plus Robert Eidus, MD, MBA; Steven Peskin, MD, MBA, FACP; and Stephen Casey, Managing Director of MedAdvocacy LLC and the PharmaHelps Network – examined some of the most significant changes occurring in healthcare delivery today, including the increased number of patients entering the system, adoption of EHR and other health information technology advances, the emphasis on quality measurement and incentives, the increasing demands on professional resources, and increasing demands for patient empowerment.

Among the topics was the role of pharmaceutical companies in supporting prescription adherence. In a post-webinar survey, audience members were asked to rank the areas of patient engagement where pharmaceutical companies may be able to have the greatest impact in the era of healthcare reform. Areas included disease education, electronic health record keeping, prescription adherence, and multicultural competency. The audience ranked prescription adherence as the number one opportunity for pharmaceutical companies to work closely with patients, providers, and payers to improve patient engagement and the quality of care.

Also in the post-webinar survey, more than 80% of the audience members rated the webinar panel as “above average” or “excellent.” And 100% of the respondents indicated they would be interested in future webinars with the panelists continuing to explore the impact of healthcare reform on patient engagement.

As bryantBROWN partner Bob Brown states, “The panel truly enjoyed the depth of discussion and the thoughtful questions from the audience. But we’ve just begun – we have much more to discuss!”

The next webinar will take place in approximately six to eight weeks. Questions and suggestions for topics are welcomed and may be emailed to Bob Brown: bob(at)bryantbrown(dot)com. For more information regarding bryantBROWN Healthcare, visit http://www.bryantbrown.com.
