Heroes in Recovery Award to be Presented at Foundations Recovery Network’s Moments of Change Conference on September 23, 2013
The award celebrates everyday heroes who aid the cause of treatment for addiction and mental health issues.
Nashville, Tennessee (PRWEB) September 20, 2013
Heroes in Recovery (HIR) is proud to announce that it will present its namesake award at Foundations Recovery Network’s Moments of Change conference on September 23, 2013, at The Breakers Hotel in West Palm Beach, Florida. This one-of-a-kind award handcrafted of blown glass will be given to recognize individuals who represent the ideals of the Heroes in Recovery movement. The award will be presented immediately following the opening keynote presentation by former Congressman Patrick Kennedy.
No one gets through the recovery process alone. There are heroes all along the way, and HIR wants to recognize these extraordinary individuals with this new award. Nominees for the Heroes in Recovery award include those in recovery, individuals who work in the treatment field or everyday people who have helped to remove barriers for others to get treatment. Nominations have been received since April 2013 via an online submission form.
Heroes in Recovery also encourages everyday heroes to share their stories at HeroesInRecovery.com, knowing that each person who does so will encourage others on the road to recovery who may be feeling isolated or alone.
About Heroes in Recovery:
According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), 20 million people needed substance abuse treatment last year and did not receive it. Ten million Americans did not receive needed mental health care. The stigma associated with substance abuse and mental health disorders creates a significant barrier to individuals and families seeking help.
Heroes in Recovery is a grassroots movement intended to remove the social stigma associated with people who are in recovery, to recognize the heroic effort it takes to overcome the obstacles in seeking help, and to celebrate the act of preventing the past from kidnapping the future. While the movement initially focuses on persons recovering from addictive behavior, it is also meant to recognize heroes recovering from many other types of disorders and trauma that can feed or manifest from an addiction.
The Heroes in Recovery 6K races serve as an educational tool for communities as well as a reminder to individuals that while they are on a personal journey of recovery, many others are on that road with them.
