Second Nature Staff to Present at this Year’s IECA Conference in San Diego
Second Nature Entrada staff Sean Roberts as well as Second Nature Blue Ridge’s Erica Thiessen and Elizabeth Lucarelli will present at the 2013 IECA Conference November 13-16.
Santa Clara, UT (PRWEB) September 25, 2013
On Thursday, November 14, Roberts of Second Nature Entrada (http://www.snwp.com) will explore emotional resiliency in his presentation "Building and Sustaining Emotional Resiliency from Wilderness through Aftercare". His talk will journey from wilderness through aftercare to deepen understanding and efficacy in normalizing vulnerability. He will explore how an approach that cultivates safety and validates emotional struggles can instill hope and resiliency in clients. Emotional resiliency will be explored as a potential benchmark for programs to work towards as linear success is de-emphasized. Holding a safe emotional container during the volatile transition between programs will be highlighted to assure continuity in the recovery journey for clients and their families. Current research and client voices will augment case studies to focus on pragmatic application based on best practices.
The following day, Thiessen and Lucarelli of Second Nature Blue Ridge (http://www.snwp.com) will explore visual and kinesthetic tools that facilitate concrete understanding of abstract ideas such as mindfulness, emotional regulation, shame, and vulnerability in "A Circle Explains It: Using Concrete Tools to Center Ourselves in an Abstract World". These concepts can be simplified using circular images, often called mandalas. They will discuss the prevalence of circles in our world, the human instinct to describe ideas in such a fashion, and draw attention to how mandalas are already infused in our lives. Initiatives and discussion will bring these ideas in-vivo for participants. Core Footsteps’ teaching tools such as the awareness wheel, brain models, reactivity and comfort zones, the shame-wellness cycle, and Hero's Journey will be explored.
