The Galien Foundation Applauds Sanford-Burnham Announcement of Major Gift and Strategic Investment in Advancing Medical Research
NEW YORK, Jan. 28, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — The Galien Foundation applauds today’s announcement by Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute (Sanford-Burnham) that the Institute has received an anonymous philanthropic pledge of $275 million to help fund the strategic initiatives of the organization’s new 10-year vision focused on biomedical research, translational research, and drug discovery and development.
“This gift, coupled with Sanford-Burnham’s strategic focus to help pioneer the next wave of biomedical discoveries, underscores the importance of private and non-profit organizations coming together to advance innovation for our industry, especially as we see government funding and resources for fundamental and translational biomedical research shrinking,” said Bruno Cohen, Chairman of the Galien Foundation. “We applaud the benefactor and Sanford-Burnham for their commitment to advancing biomedical science and innovation, and for their focus on improving patient lives and human health.”
