Nutrisystem Announces The Winners Of Its Couples Weight Loss Challenge
Winning couple Lori and Oscar Balderrama lost a combined 77 pounds in 16 weeks by following the all-new Nutrisystem® My Way® Program
FORT WASHINGTON, Pa., Feb. 4, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — Nutrisystem, Inc. (NASDAQ: NTRI), a leading provider of weight management products and services, announced today the winners of a couples weight loss challenge that appeared on the syndicated daytime series “The Doctors.” Nutrisystem enlisted two couples to go head-to-head to lose weight and get healthy. The winners, Lori & Oscar Balderrama (Red Team) of Los Angeles, California, lost a combined total of 77 pounds on the all-new Nutrisystem My Way, a program personalized for each individual’s metabolism to ensure healthy weight loss that includes a one-week kick off called Fast 5, which when followed allows you to lose five pounds in the first week of dieting. In the first week on Fast 5, Lori lost seven pounds and Oscar lost nine pounds.
The Balderammas first appeared last October on “The Doctors,” where during the segment they were introduced to Nutrisystem celebrity coaches, Dan Marino and Marie Osmond, along with Nutrisystem counselors, to further support and encourage their weight loss efforts. The Hall of Fame football quarterback and world-renowned singer/actress surprised the couples on-set during the segment.
“Reaching a weight loss goal is always easier with support and what better way to gain that support than losing weight with your spouse, partner or a friend,” said Keira Krausz, Chief Marketing Officer, Nutrisystem. “We’re pleased with the success both couples have achieved with Nutrisystem and appreciate our ambassadors, Dan Marino and Marie Osmond lending their support throughout the journey!”
The winning couple, Lori and Oscar, has been married for eight years and have three children together. Lori, 41, a thyroid cancer survivor, has been in remission for ten years. With her health back on track, her goal was to lose the unwanted pounds and build a healthy foundation for her family. Oscar, 38, a former wrestler and a self-proclaimed king of football parties, aimed to scale back on his Sunday dips and chips to help his family better understand the importance of portion control.
“Nutrisystem jump started our weight loss, and our motivation! With the Fast 5 were able to see results quickly, which motivated us to keep moving forward to reach our goals. The food kept us satisfied, the Nutrisystem support kept us focused, and all the compliments from our friends kept us smiling,” said Oscar & Lori Balderrama. “With Nutrisystem, we finally kept our promise to our kids to get healthy. Thank you Nutrisystem!”
The runners-up, Amber and Marvin “Nom” Elkins of Los Angeles, California, also saw great success on the program with a combined 59-pound weight loss!
