When it comes to calories, America’s beverage industry has a longstanding commitment to arming consumers with the information they need to help them find balance.

For more information on this and other issues related to the non-alcoholic beverage industry, follow ABA on Twitter @AmeriBev and Facebook.

Here are some examples of how America’s beverage companies are helping to educate consumers about their wide range of beverage options and empowering them to make the choice that’s best for them and their families:

In 2010, in support of First Lady Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move!” campaign, America’s beverage companies announced a voluntary industry commitment to place easy-to-understand calorie labels on the front of every bottle, can and pack they produce. With the Clear on Calories initiative, consumers know exactly how many calories are in a beverage before making a purchase.

Building on that innovation, two years later, industry launched the Calories Count((TM) )Beverage Vending Program. In an effort to provide clear calorie information on vending machines and remind consumers that “calories count” in all the choices they make, companies labeled selection buttons and placed stickers on the front of beverage vending machines with messages such as “Check Then Choose” and “Try a Low-Calorie Beverage.”

The American Beverage Association is the trade association representing the broad spectrum of companies that manufacture and distribute non-alcoholic beverages in the United States. Visit the association’s website (www.ameribev.org) or call the ABA communications team (202-463-6770).
