New Medical Search Engine Expands Advisory Board to Oversee the Development of its Database

LOS ANGELES, April 15, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — CureCrowd, the first, most advanced medically-guided search engine, announces the expansion of its advisory board with two new members, Drs. George C. Newman, M.D., Ph.D., and Bert A. Weiner, M.D., FACEP (Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians). The distinguished neurologist and emergency medical physician will lend endless value and credibility to the newly launched health information resource through their versed experiences.

Chairman of the department of neurosensory sciences at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia, Pa., Dr. Newman is certified by the Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, and has contributed decades of achievements and funded research to the medical field. As a member of the CureCrowd Advisory Board, Dr. Newman will direct the platform’s efforts and expand its utility, offering years of professional research experience and expertise. Through analyzing the platform’s data, Dr. Newman will develop the best approaches for future potential research.

“For CureCrowd to be a reliable resource, the information gathered must be accurate, trustworthy and impartial,” Newman said. “By lending my counsel to the CureCrowd Advisory Board, I will review and develop equations to determine the implications of the data, from traditional pharmaceuticals to alternative therapies.”

CureCrowd aggregates medical surveys into statistical data to compare all modalities of treatment for a given ailment into one easily accessible, standardized study. Dr. Newman will oversee the addition of crowdsourced medical statistics to CureCrowd’s database, and offer invaluable peer-to-peer support and feedback.

Dr. Weiner is board certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine and serves as attending faculty at UCLA Olive View Medical Center, where he’s an assistant clinical professor of medicine. Additionally, he’s served on the advisory panel for the California State Assembly Health Committee. Dr. Weiner’s role at CureCrowd will be devoted to patient outreach for orphan diseases.

“A lot of uncommon diseases receive little funding from the NIH (National Institute of Health) or pharmaceutical companies,” Weiner said. “These diseases can greatly benefit from a platform like CureCrowd, which can expand their data on the effectiveness of treatment options.”

Dr. Newman received his Ph.D. from the University of Virginia’s department of biochemistry in 1974, and continued to earn his M.D. at the University of Virginia in 1976. His medical experience includes research funded by the National Institutes of Health, as well as stroke-related research funded by major pharmaceutical companies. He has more than 50 publications in peer-reviewed journals including The New England Journal of Medicine, Journal of Neurosurgery, and Journal of Stroke and Cerebrovascular Disease.

Dr. Weiner received his Bachelor of Science degree from University of California, San Diego in 1970 and his M.D. from the University of San Francisco in 1974. He is a co-founding member and fellow of the American Academy of Emergency Room Physicians.

“CureCrowd represents an essential advancement that promises to bring authenticity and transparency to the otherwise opaque, and sometimes over regimented, realm of medical information,” said Founder Dr. Charles Rocamboli. “Through the additions of Drs. Newman and Weiner to our advisory board, CureCrowd will evolve into a research database and information resource unlike any other.”
