In its latest blog post Best Drug Rehabilitation, which offers treatment programs and believes that having family close by during a stay in rehab can make a big difference in whether or not the process is successful, is asking a critically important question: is there help for those dealing with multiple addictions?

“Multiple addictions is referred to as polysubstance dependence in the DSM, and generally involves an addiction to three or more drug families – often hallucinogens, depressants and stimulants,” commented Best Drug Rehabilitation’s CEO Per Wickstrom. “However, as serious as the multiple addiction issue may be, treatment is indeed possible and far from hopeless – provided that the addict gets the medically-approved inpatient treatment he or she needs, plus a comprehensive aftercare program that includes ongoing support to help prevent a relapse.”

Best Drug Rehabilitation’s blog post also points out that many addicts attempt to diminish the severity of their addiction to alcohol or marijuana – often choosing not to see those as addictions at all, but lifestyle preferences or, at worst, a bad habit.

“The bottom-line fact is that addiction is addiction, and no amount of spin or re-framing changes this,” added Per Wickstrom, who personally struggled with addiction in his youth and now uses those seminal experiences to help and inspire others to become sober. “What’s more, even if the stimulus for one addiction is removed, if the underlying addictive behavior remains untreated, then the problem won’t be solved. In fact, it can even get worse, as addicts fall further into denial and can go to greater lengths to mask it."
