Snow Companies Honored in the Telly Awards
WILLIAMSBURG, Va., June 24, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — The Snow Companies has been named a winner in the 35th Annual Telly Awards. The video entitled, “Multiple Myeloma in the African American Community” received a bronze award in the Non-Broadcast Health and Wellness category.

“Multiple Myeloma in the African American Community” competed with nearly 12,000 Telly Award entries from around the country. Snow Companies, in collaboration with Millennium Pharmaceuticals, created this video to educate members of the African American community about multiple myeloma, the second most prevalent blood cancer in existence. The video highlights the importance of taking an active role in health care decision-making and the importance of finding support through patient advocacy and support groups.
Grounded in science
Research shows storytelling can have a powerful impact on health care related decision-making. In 2011, the Annals of Internal Medicine published a trial from Thomas K. Houston, MD and his team of researchers. It found that using interactive storytelling to educate patients on a medical issue can compel people to take action in relation to their health.
The Snow Companies’ and Millennium’s Multiple Myeloma initiative took a similar approach by creating powerful videos, like the one honored in the Telly Awards. By using real, relatable and culturally relevant patients, the multiple myeloma initiative and this video are working to raise awareness among the African American community. Since being released in late 2013, more than 1,300 copies of this award winning video have been distributed to help educate those affected by multiple myeloma.
