According to the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD), tooth decay is the most common chronic infectious disease affecting children in the United States. Though largely preventable, tooth decay affects 42 percent of children aged 2 to 11 years in the United States, and children with poor oral health are nearly three times more likely to miss school as a result of dental pain. The Kids in the Klinic Endowment addresses this health concern by enabling the school’s dental clinics to provide care for all children, regardless of their socioeconomic status.
Kids in the Klinic is a volunteer-led program designed to help underserved children in the San Francisco Bay Area and Central Valley. Many of the children served by Kids in the Klinic already face challenges of mental or physical disabilities in addition to facing obstacles to oral health care. The Kids in the Klinic Endowment has raised more than $2 million to make a difference in the lives of children and hopes to continue supporting pediatric oral healthcare.
