Cleveland, Ohio (PRWEB) August 20, 2014

Early this fall CHAMPS Oncology will hold three cancer registry education sessions for their 40-plus staff members in Cleveland, Columbus and Indianapolis. These regional cancer registry education sessions will emphasize the importance of providing quality cancer registry data and information as well as provide education and guidance to stay current in this ever-changing industry.

Cancer registry education session topics will focus on the following:

•Reporting – CHAMPS Oncology staff will learn how to build and create reports using various software applications. This intelligence will provide cancer programs with data analytics that can be used for administrative planning, clinical outcomes and performance measures.

•Quality – The quality portion will emphasize the importance of ensuring cancer registry data is timely, accurate, complete and follows consistent cancer coding guidelines, ultimately resulting in valuable information for cancer program administrators, clinicians and researchers.

•AJCC Staging – As of 2016, Collaborative Staging will no longer be required for cancer registry data. Moving forward the focus will be on AJCC staging. CHAMPS’ staff will continue to learn how to identify inconsistencies and choose the correct staging elements for their clients.

•CoC Program Compliance – During this portion of the program, CHAMPS’ leadership will stress the importance of maintaining compliance with CoC cancer program standards and discuss the registrar’s role during this complex process.

A total of seven CE hours will be submitted to the National Cancer Registrars Association for approval.
