UnitedHealthcare, a UnitedHealth Group (NYSE:UNH) company, has been selected as the health plan administrator for the City of San Antonio. Effective Jan. 1, 2008, UnitedHealthcare will become the new carrier for approximately 10,800 city employees and over 26,000 total covered lives.
"We are honored that the City of San Antonio has selected UnitedHealthcare to provide its employees with quality, affordable health care solutions," said Jeff Cook, CEO of UnitedHealthcare of Central Texas. In addition, enrollees may take advantage of UnitedHealthcare's numerous health information and education programs, including: a 24-hour nurse line; easy-to-use cost and quality information for physicians and hospitals; and online self-service tools that enable employees to access their personal health records, plan transactions and account information at any time.
"After an extensive review process and in consultation with the Hay Group, we selected UnitedHealthcare because they could best meet the needs of our employees and the City of San Antonio.
