Illinois Planning Board Approves Central DuPage Hospital Bed Pavilion

WINFIELD, Ill., Oct. 23 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Today, Central DuPage Hospital's (CDH) Certificate of Need (CON) application for a new Bed Pavilion received approval from the Illinois Hospital Facilities Planning Board.
"Today's CON approval means that CDH can take the next big step forward to align our facilities with community expectations and the changing needs of hospitals," said CEO Luke McGuinness. "By investing $235.2 million to complete the transformation of the physical plant, CDH will be able to meet the ever increasing demand for high technology care delivered at the bedside along with consumer expectations for all-private, high-touch accommodations."
The 202 private inpatient rooms will replace existing rooms located in buildings constructed in the 1970's. The five-story Bed Pavilion will be located in the Southwest corner of the campus. Three floors will be dedicated to patient rooms, while the remainder of the building will feature a 150-seat auditorium and conference room, and a state-of-the-art medical library with extensive resources for patients, families and the community.
The rooms are designed to be spacious and welcoming, with an open space and pull-out beds for family visitors, unobtrusive storage facilities for the patient's personal items and views of the landscaped courtyard. The bathroom is fully handicapped accessible. The larger rooms will accommodate medical equipment needed by the patient while allowing the nurses and doctors sufficient space to effectively administer care.
A new parking deck will be constructed to replace parking displaced by the Bed Pavilion. Groundbreaking is anticipated late fall 2008.
This major project complements CDH's recently completed expansion projects: the new Ambulatory Services Pavilion, expanded and contemporized Women's and Children's Services areas and new East Surgery Pavilion which opened in May 2007.
