THE VIRGINIAN-PILOT
LYNNHAVEN Jamie Barnett, a first-time client, walked into Fitness Together on Great Neck Road. Before his athletic shoes touched down he had a bottle of water in one hand, and a clean towel for his sweaty brow in the other.
Thats not all that sets Fitness Together apart from the personal training pack, said owner Reese Edgington. The facilitys motto is One Client, One Trainer, One Goal.
The benefits of Fitness Together is that all clients train in private suites; there are no crowds, no waiting and no distractions, said Edgington, who moved back to his native Virginia Beach in August to open the fitness franchise.
Three suites filled with state-of-the-art equipment ensure that the one-on-one personal training is private and relaxed, but tailor- made for each client.
We really cater to our clients. I think you can see what makes us distinct from the rest, said Edgington, 29. Our pricing is fair, with package prices dependent upon personal choices and needs. And there are no contracts to sign.
The process begins with a health assessment. Goals are set and workouts are monitored guaranteeing progress in six weeks.
It was awesome, said Barnett, a Castleton resident who took a trial workout with his wife. I knew I was isolating the muscles more, and theyre focused in technique. They really encouraged me when it was difficult on the last few repetitions.
Barnetts goal is to become more sculpted, and have better health overall.
They really got to know me before I started through a pre- screen, and they really catered to my needs, he added.
Fitness Together has more than 200 facilities nationwide, said Edgington. The customized training program, nutritional guidelines and accountability booklet make it easy for clients to see results, no matter what their goals may be.
Edgington has a degree in civil engineering from Virginia Military Institute, and served as a commissioned officer in the Air Force. He taught physical education and coached wrestling at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo.
I decided that this was what I wanted to do with my life, Edgington said. I want to help people get better physically.
We can integrate yoga, Pilates or sports-specific training. We want a persons goals to be met, and have the program to accommodate them.
And we encourage people to come use the cardio equipment between their sessions.
Anne Herring-Davis, owner of neighboring Blissfully Bronze and Therapeutic Massage, recently had a session at Fitness Together. She watched the plasma television while doing her cardiovascular work in the front room, then headed to the back for her personal workout.
He has fresh fruit for people after their workout. Im hypoglycemic, so I liked that, said Herring-Davis, a Great Neck Farms resident. Hes really gone a step above what hes required to. Its a great concept and if youre investing in your health, you have to look at the bottom line. His motto isnt just words, it fits.
