TOPIC: Many women are turning to exercise, diet and other natural remedies to ease symptoms of menopause, according to an article by U.S. News & World Report. In 2002, the Women's Health Initiative study found postmenopausal women who underwent hormone replacement therapy reported higher rates of heart disease, strokes and breast cancer. For women who need HRT to curb such symptoms as night sweats, mood swings and hot flashes, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists recommends the lowest effective dose for the shortest amount of time.
EXPERTS: ExpertSource can offer several highly qualified experts to comment on this story:
Debra Stokes, president of Eloge Enterprises LLC, is very familiar with hot flashes. She has up to three a day. Debra is a great source who can provide an honest testimonial of how she has dealt with her menopausal symptoms. As a businesswoman looking for a solution for herself and other women, she invented a new product, Glistens (www.glistensonline.com), to help whisk away sweat and provide immediate cool relief during a hot flash. This is one woman that "did something about it" since there wasn't anything on the market. Prior to starting her own company, Debra's career path included broadcast journalism (on and off camera), a tour of duty with a quasi-governmental agency, and a corporate communications position with a utility giant.
