Brenda Motheral, Ph.D., To Lead Healthways Center for Health Research

Healthways (NASDAQ: HWAY), the nation's leading provider of Health and Care SupportSM services, today announced the appointment of Brenda Motheral, Ph.D., as director of the Healthways Center for Health Research. Dr. Motheral most recently served as senior vice president of research and product management for Express Scripts (NASDAQ, ESRX), where she played an integral role on the Express Scripts executive team, overseeing research and product management for all of the company's pharmacy benefit management offerings.
During her research tenure at Express Scripts, Dr. Motheral and her team established a strong research and consultative focus for the company and helped drive program adoption through a rigorous evaluation process. In addition, Dr. Motheral and her team published more than 75 manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals, led development of the company's annual Drug Trend Report and Outcomes Conference, and received numerous national research awards from both scientific and professional organizations.

From 1998 to 2000, Dr. Motheral was a faculty member at The University of Arizona College of Pharmacy and also served as the director of the Center for Pharmacy Policy at the University. Dr. Motheral's research program focused on pharmacy benefit management and was awarded grants from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality and The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation among others.
Her work has been published in numerous clinical and policy journals, including JAMA, and Health Affairs. In addition to serving on the editorial board of several journals, Dr. Motheral has previously served as a contributing editor and on the Board of Directors of The International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research. Dr. Motheral holds a Ph.D. focused in Health Economics, a Masters of Business Administration and a B.S. in Pharmacy.
