The Texas Department of State Health Services has signed an agreement to license additional components of Mediware Information Systems's ClosedLoop Medication Management suite.
The agency, which currently utilizes Mediware's WORx pharmacy management software for 21 facilities throughout the state, plans to implement Mediware's Electronic Medication Administration Record (MediMAR) in 11 of these to further enhance patient-safety capabilities.
The Texas Department of State Health Services sought an automated medication administration record system to reduce the potential for medication errors and streamline documentation efforts upon administration. By selecting MediMAR, which is fully integrated with their existing pharmacy management system, Texas can extend medication safety controls to the point of administration and maintain a single medication record for each patient.
John Damgaard, senior vice president and COO of Mediware, said: "Mediware's closed-loop approach offers unique advantages for behavioral health providers. Behavioral health patients are mobile and present challenges when administering medications. Using MediMAR's positive patient identification tools and comprehensive administration procedures, Texas behavioral health clinicians can ensure the right drugs are provided to the right patients, in the right dosage and route."
