You can be festive, fit and perhaps even more financially fruitful in the next few months, with activities available at the North Charleston Community Center.

Last-minute Christmas gift-givers may want to take advantage of the NCCC's Christmas Arts & Crafts Party. It is scheduled to get underway at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 23. It is open to all ages, although those 5 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

The holiday party will feature four different arts and crafts projects that parents can assist their children with, said North Charleston Community Center Director Pam Mayfield.

Mayfield added that a "special guest" will address children at the party, and parents are welcome to take photographs.

January's roster of NCCC events will include a pair of round- ball competitions.

A Three-Point Shot Basketball Competition is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 15, starting at 11 a.m. The competition is open to ages 13 through 17. Contestants must sign up to participate by Friday, Jan. 7.

On Saturday, Jan. 29, the center will host an Adult Dodge Ball Tournament. It will begin at 11 a.m.

The dodge ball tournament is open to participants ages 16 and older, with six players required per team. The entry deadline is Friday, Jan. 21.

Valentines, volleyball, basketball and black history awareness are all part of the community center's February calendar.

Each Wednesday in February, the center will present a film suitable for all ages as part of Black History Movie Month.

On Thursday, Feb. 10, the center will have a Valentine's Day Craft Party for all ages at 6 p.m. As with the Christmas craft party, children ages 5 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

A pair of youth competitions are slated for mid-February at the center.

A Youth Co-Ed Volleyball Tournament will start at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 12. The competition will be divided into two categories of age groups of 9- to 12-year-olds and 13- to 16-year- olds, with six players on a team.

The sign-up deadline for the volleyball tournament is Friday, Feb. 4.

A Three-on-Three Youth Basketball Tournament will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 19. It, too, will be split into two categories of ages 9 to 12 and 13 to 16.

Saturday, Feb. 12 is the deadline for the three-on-three basketball tourney.
