Hospital Launches State of the Art Patient Tracking and Integrated Patient Data System

Posted on: Tuesday, 30 October 2007, 15:00 CDT

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif., Oct. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Huntington Beach Hospital, an affiliate of Prime Healthcare Services, Inc. (PHS), has installed a state-of-the-art patient tracking and integrated data system within the Emergency Department. Housed within the hospital's MEDITECH system, the application is called Emergency Department Management (EDM). The EDM can assist providers in managing their Emergency Department patients quickly and efficiently. This patient safety process takes place from the moment patients enter the Emergency Department until their point of discharge, and stores the historical patient data for future visits.

The system also allows ED staff to manage patient flow from a single point of entry, and eliminates the need for traditional hand-written "grease board" or "white board" information. All of PHS' hospitals in Orange County have their emergency department installed with this system. They have been outfitted with large and easy to view flat screen, high definition monitors that are mounted in a central location. These screens display just the right amount of patient information to inform staff and clinicians of what they require for the patient's treatment while keeping the patient's identity and health information private.

In addition, the system allows clinicians a quick and easy method for completing documentation, which is then incorporated into the patient's electronic record. This is a key factor for efficiently and safely treating returning patients as to their previous documentation such as allergies, medication history, etc.

Finally, the EDM and MediTech ordering capabilities have allowed for an even greater patient safety environment. Laboratory and Radiology results are returned quickly and accurately via the EDM and MediTech systems.

"Prime Healthcare Services is committed to providing healthcare that is the highest quality, and also the most cost-effective. The EDM module is just one more example of Prime Healthcare Services' quest to lead the industry is delivering efficient, integrated technology that enables providers to treat patients in the safest and most advantageous environment," said Prem Reddy, MD, FACC, FCCP, PHS' Chairman of the Board.
