BROCCOLI

A good source of fibre, calcium and iron as well as vitamins A, C and E. Recommended by doctors as a cancer fighter as it contains the chemical sulforaphane.

Anxiety, cancer, circulatory weakness, cystitis, depression, fatigue, joint problems, motion sickness, nausea, stress, thrush.

CARROT

These have the highest beta-carotene level of any vegetable, which the body converts into vitamin A.

There's also other vitamins and minerals.

Eyes, skin, hair and nails all benefit from this juice. Carrots also help cleanse the liver and reduce cholesterol levels.

ELDERBERRY

Nettle juice has been used for centuries in natural healing as it's rich in minerals, especially iron.

Use only the first five leaves of young nettles in the spring - autumn leaves are unwholesome.

ORANGE

This juice is far better for you fresh, than bottled.

POTATO

One of the most useful sources of vitamin C in winter, though this drops by 50 per cent when peeled, diced and cooked.

The peel is full of potassium, which is good for high blood pressure, and it also contains vitamins A and B and minerals.

Choose potatoes with eyes; avoid ones with green skins. Unpalatable raw so must be sweetened with honey or diluted with carrot, lemon or apple juice. Or add it to soups.

QUINCE

This is an excellent source of vitamin C but can only be used when the fruits are tree ripened.

Tomatoes, sometimes known as love apples, have an excellent amount of vitamins A, C and E.

Exceptionally high in vitamins A and B1.
