GHI and HIP Lead Effort to Expand Electronic Health Record System Throughout the City of New York
NEW YORK, Nov. 5 /PRNewswire/ — Group Health Incorporated (GHI) and HIP Health Plan of New York (HIP) will convene an educational seminar in New York City on November 6 for primary care physicians treating underserved patient populations. The seminar, to be held at HIP headquarters, 55 Water St., will provide information about a proposed expansion of the City’s electronic health record system for eligible physicians.
The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene’s Primary Care Information Project received funding previously to establish prevention- oriented electronic health record system in the offices of 1,500 eligible primary care physicians, including every community health center in the City. The City has now applied for an expanded grant from New York State to fund another 650 physicians.
Under the grant, eligible physicians will receive licenses to electronic health record systems provided by eClinicalWorks, on-site training, and system maintenance support, which will cover about half of the total costs of implementing an electronic health record system. These systems are fully loaded with practice management and clinical support tools, including features such as scheduling, billing, electronic charting, and e-prescribing. Also offered are point-of-care electronic alerts that incorporate clinical guidelines, a member portal, and an electronic connection to immunization registries and other public health resources.
“By marshalling the power of EHR systems to boost administrative efficiencies and support care coordination and disease management, New York City physicians will be able to transform the way they care for their patients,” says Dr. Aran Ron, President of GHI.
Interested primary care practitioners may learn more about this program by contacting the Primary Care Information Project at pcip@health.nyc.gov or 1- 212-341-2263. Interested HIP and GHI physicians who would like to tomorrow’s educational seminar held in collaboration with PCIP should make a reservation at 1-866-447-9717, option 5.
