Posted on: Tuesday, 6 November 2007, 15:00 CST

Discussing trends and issues facing child nutrition programs, school nutrition professionals from all parts of New Jersey will gather this week from November 7-9, 2007, at the Tropicana Casino and Resort in Atlantic City, NJ. The New Jersey School Nutrition Association's 45th Annual Fall Conference theme, "Step Up to a Healthy Lifestyle," reflects a wide range of topics including nutrition standards for foods in schools, healthy meal options and the status of local wellness policy implementation one year after federal law mandated every school district approve a policy.

The conference provides members of the New Jersey media an opportunity to take the pulse of the state's school nutrition programs. Highlights include:

-- Exhibit hall -- featuring more than 98 booths offering low-fat foods, whole grains, fruits and vegetables and kitchen equipment and supplies that contribute to healthy school meal programs. NOTE: Cameras and interviews permitted in the hall with permission. -- General session speakers -- Dr. Fred M. Jacobs, MD, JD Commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services, Charles M. Kuperus, Secretary of the New Jersey Department of Agriculture and Fred Schafer, the Fit Food Dude. -- Education Sessions -- School nutrition professionals will participate in quality sessions on wellness and nutrition, USDA commodity foods, promoting milk consumption, whole grains and school breakfast.
