Group Health Cooperative Implements Zynchros.Com to Increase Pharmacy Data Consolidation and Collaboration

Posted on: Monday, 12 November 2007, 12:00 CST

In a measure to increase efficiency and enhance internal processes, Group Health Cooperative has implemented Zynchros.com, the leading, on-demand formulary management technology, for their commercial and Medicare Part D lines of business.

Group Health Cooperative is a healthcare system that directly integrates both care and coverage with a unique approach to clinical quality. Prescriptions written by a Group Health practitioner and filled at Group Health-owned and operated pharmacies create a complete medication profile for the member that delivers an extra level of quality care and patient safety.

But keeping a diverse system in sync -- one that includes in and out-of-network providers, claims administration and pharmacies -- required a new approach. "Zynchros.com offers the ability to centralize formulary information and systematically publish and distribute that information among many different types of users," explains Robert Pinkerton, President and COO of Zynchros, Inc. "This encourages collaboration and ensures a high degree of control and quality."

"We have several formularies to manage, including CMS/Medicare Part D," said Larry Oliver, Associate Director for Information/Applications within the Pharmacy Services at Group Health Cooperative. "Zynchros offers value-added services to help us more efficiently manage our formularies: tracking formulary decisions, responding to CMS changes, easily publishing formularies in a standard format and communicating changes to update our clinical systems. We are planning to reduce the amount of manual labor required, which can be redirected to other important patient care work."

Group Health is accredited by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) and currently holds an "Excellent" rating. Recently, the NCQA and U.S. News & World Report ranked Group Health's Medicare plan among the top 15 percent in the country for 2007.
