FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., Nov. 16 /PRNewswire/ — The National Football League Alliance Partnership recently kicked off the first national program focusing on heart health screenings for former NFL players.

The program debuted at Broward Health Broward General Medical Center. Partnering with Dr. Jeffrey Boone, founder of ProHeart MD, and the ProHeart staff, Broward General provided medical experts and a 64-slice CT scanner. More than 30 NFL alumni chapter presidents and board members from throughout the country participated in the screening program.

“The Alliance is made up of the NFL, NFL Alumni, Inc., the Pro Football Hall of Fame and the NFL Players Association,” said Frank Krauser, president and CEO of NFL Alumni, Inc. “We knew that we could not accept anything but the absolute best in healthcare screenings for our members. The teaming of Broward General Medical Center with ProHeart MD made the choice obvious.”

Using the ultrafast 64-slice CT scanner, physicians can image a beating heart and its blood vessels without blurring. The technology provides doctors with accurate results in minutes. In addition to Broward General, the advanced technology is available at two additional Broward Health hospitals, Coral Springs Medical Center and Imperial Point Medical Center.

“We partnered with the NFL Alliance because we can offer state-of-the-art diagnostic technology,” said Alan Levine, president/CEO, Broward Health. “We provide the 64-slice CT, the elite of all scanners, to the community and we are proud to offer it to the NFL as well.”

The heart health screening program is one of four major health projects the NFL Alliance Partnership provides to former players. Other programs include a joint replacement initiative (of which Broward General is one of only 13 approved centers), an assisted living program and Alzheimer’s support program.
