Boston's Renowned Brigham and Women's Hospital Smart Sources Clinical Trial Enrollment Through Care Management International

Posted on: Monday, 19 November 2007, 09:01 CST

Care Management International, Inc., the market innovator in medical management and clinical services smart sourcing, today announced that it will administer the enrollment phase of a Member Outreach clinical trial at Brigham and Women's Hospital (BWH). Funded by the National Institutes of Health, the trial will assess whether education from clinical coaches improves adherence to osteoporosis medication in elderly members who are covered by the Pharmaceutical Assistance Contract for the Elderly (PACE) program. PACE is a state run prescription program for Pennsylvania residents with limited incomes, who are sixty-five years of age and older enrolled in a prescription assistance program.

Care Management International's specific charter is to provide BWH with enrollment services and operational metrics on call summary statistics while gathering demographic data typically not available in the enrollment phase of these projects.

According to Daniel H. Solomon, MD, MPH, Chief, Section of Clinical Sciences, Division of Rheumatology, Division of Pharmacoepidemiology at BWH, "Care Management International was chosen because of its ability to deliver a sophisticated and structured member outreach program while generating a higher caliber of operational data. With Care Management as a valued partner, BWH will be able to reach more participants more quickly and therefore gather more data to help evaluate the effectiveness of this delivery model."

Large national and regional health care organizations have turned to Care Management International for smart sourcing. "Our operational expertise and proven strengths in clinical program management uniquely match the outreach needs for this program. Our approach combines best-in-class human talent with best-in-breed technology to deliver smart sourcing for a variety of different business sectors within healthcare organizations," said Minalkumar Patel, MD, MPH, Chief Executive Officer of Care Management International. "Smart sourcing in healthcare is an emerging approach for the delivery of sophisticated, clinically relevant, global support services. Smart sourcing utilizes highly trained clinical talent as well as the latest technology to help clients improve outcomes, innovate in essential clinical areas, and improve the quality of care experienced by patients."

About the PACE Program

For the past 23 years, the PACE Program has provided a comprehensive drug benefit and life sustaining medication to over one million Pennsylvanians in need of assistance. Income limits for PACE are $14,500 for single persons and $17,700 for a married couple; for PACENET, the limits are up to $23,500 for single persons and $31,500 for a married couple. Neither program has an asset test. The PACE Program is a qualified state pharmacy assistance program and, as such, provides seamless coverage to fill the Part D gaps encountered by cardholders who are enrolled in Medicare Part D, including deductibles, the doughnut hole phase, drugs excluded under Part D, drugs not found on Part D plan formularies, and differentials between the Part D plan copayments and the PACE and PACENET copayments.
