SHARON – Esther Fishman of Sharon has been awarded the first whole health advocacy scholarship by the National Institute of Whole Health.

Fishman received a scholarship to the Wellesley organization’s distance learning whole health educator program.

The program will help her deliver better holistic and relationship-centered care to her patients.

Fishman has worked as a therapeutic recreation specialist at Lemuel Shattuck Hospital in Boston for almost nine years.

She provides recreational therapy and counseling to adults suffering from mental health issues, substance abuse problems, homelessness and low self-esteem. She also teaches yoga and stress reduction.

Fishman plans to use the education to improve patient care at the hospital and eventually open her own holistic health center.
