Americans Want to Start New Year's Fitness Resolutions Now, Says MyGymFloor.Com Survey

This year, Americans not only want to get a jump-start on their holiday shopping after Thanksgiving Day, they also want to begin their New Year's fitness resolutions too, according to a new survey. Fifty-four percent said they're interested in jump-starting their New Year's fitness resolutions after Thanksgiving instead of New Year's Day according to the survey commissioned by www.MyGymFloor.com, America's leading manufacturer and online retailer of superior home gym flooring.
When asked, "Would you be interested in jump-starting your New Year's fitness resolution to begin right after Thanksgiving, instead of on New Year's Day by doing any of the following?", the key findings from the Opinion Research Corporation survey for MyGymFloor.com, were:
Forty-one percent want do more or increase fitness and exercise at home
Twenty-nine percent want to fine tune an exercise program already started
Twenty-nine percent want to start an exercise program
Twenty-one percent want to spend more time at the gym
Sixteen percent said starting after New Year's is fine
Twenty-nine percent don't know, none of the above or don't make fitness resolutions
The President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports recommends that adults 18 and older need 30 minutes of physical activity on five or more days a week to be healthy; children and teens need 60 minutes of activity a day for their health. "If only we all had the extra time to be at the gym and follow the government's guidelines," said Mark T. Sidle, a single father that owns and operates Swim 'n Sport, a 36-store chain of ladies swimwear across the U.S. "The good news for busy folks like me that want to bring the gym home is that there are plenty of options out there to create the ultimate workout room -- not just the professional-quality fitness equipment but even the same Olympic Grade flooring found in professional gyms!"
Rich Meyer, Sales Manager of www.MyGymFloor.com, says he's pleased to learn that twenty-nine percent of American's surveyed wanted to start exercising. "If those are the very same people that wanted to start exercising last year, we have a recommendation. Rather than recycle unsuccessful resolutions every year, we're encouraging Americans to jump-start fitness resolutions now so when the New Year arrives, it's already a habit!"
About the Survey
The results of the New Year's Fitness Resolution Survey are from a telephone survey among a national probability sample of 1,008 adult Americans, conducted November 15-18, 2007, by ORC's CARAVAN® for www.MyGymFloor.com. The possible sample variation for this survey is +/- 3%.
