HemoBioTech's Human Blood Substitute, HemoTech, Highlighted in Scientific American Online
Posted on: Tuesday, 20 November 2007, 09:01 CST
HemoBioTech, Inc.'s (OTCBB: HMBT, http://www.hemobiotech.com), HemoTech, potentially the first viable substitute for human blood, was highlighted in the November 13, 2007 online edition of Scientific American as the lead story in its news section.
The full text of the article, entitled "New Blood Substitutes Promise Relief For Sagging Blood Banks," notes that HemoTech "not only suppresses hemoglobin's inherent toxicity, but also serves to improve blood flow and even spur the creation of new red blood cells." Other products using hemoglobin or perfluorocarbon compounds as blood substitutes have shown toxicity problems in their clinical trials. The article's placement is especially timely, given that it comes shortly after HemoBioTech announced taking critical steps necessary for initiating trials in India. The goal is for such trials to run in parallel with trials in the United States. The Scientific American online article is available by clicking here, www.sciam.com/article.cfm?id=blood-substitutes-hemoglobin-anemia.
"We are pleased that Scientific American online has taken note of HemoBioTech's progress with HemoTech and the benefits it could provide the world," said Arthur Bollon, PhD, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of HemoBioTech. "The extraordinary potential advantages discussed in the article are a result of the patented chemical method used to create HemoTech. We remain focused on our goal of extending the initial clinical trial of HemoTech in order to move us closer to one day being able to satisfy a major need in the broad blood use market."

About HemoBioTech, Inc.
HemoBioTech is working on the development and commercialization of HemoTech, a novel human blood substitute technology exclusively licensed from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. HemoTech is composed of bovine hemoglobin that is chemically modified with adenosine triphosphate, adenosine, and glutathione. In addition to carrying oxygen through the bloodstream, HemoTech also induces erythropoiesis (red blood cell production). Based on preclinical studies and an initial foreign human clinical study, the company believes that HemoTech, due to its novel chemical composition, may significantly diminish or even eliminate the intrinsic toxicities that have plagued other attempts at developing blood substitutes. HemoTech is currently undergoing additional studies to confirm and possibly expand on these results. HemoTech is being developed to help reduce or eliminate the danger resulting from acute blood loss in trauma, surgery, and other conditions. Corporate headquarters are located at 5001 Spring Valley Road, Suite 1040-West, Dallas, Texas 75244. For further information visit our website at http://www.hemobiotech.com.
