The nimble-fingered ladies of a Women’s Institute have put their knitting and sewing skills to full effect by creating special blankets for cancer patients.

Members of Heath WI in Cardiff have taken on the blanket project over the past six months, putting together 40 knee blankets for patients receiving treatment at Velindre Hospital in Whitchurch, Cardiff.

Pat Thoburn, secretary of Heath WI, said: “It all started from one of our knit and natter afternoons when it was suggested we could use the wool to make the blankets for hospital patients.

“Our members, whose ages range up to 92, then set about the task and we’re all very pleased with the result.”

The blankets have now been handed over to the hospital.
