Florida Hospital Altamonte Enriches Patient Experience With GetWellNetwork PatientLife System, Committed to Raising Patient Safety and Satisfaction

Posted on: Tuesday, 27 November 2007, 09:01 CST

BETHESDA, Md., Nov. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- GetWellNetwork, Inc., a leading provider of Interactive Patient Care solutions, today announced that Florida Hospital Altamonte has selected the GetWellNetwork(R) PatientLife System(R) as part of the hospital's strategic plan to further engage patients and families in their care experience. The system is scheduled to launch on December 4, 2007 with the opening of a new 72-bed patient tower.

"GetWellNetwork will help complete the overall enhanced patient experience we are seeking at Florida Hospital Altamonte for our patients. We are committed to raising both patient safety and patient satisfaction, and we believe the GetWellNetwork system is core to helping us achieve our aggressive goals in these areas," said Rob Fulbright, CEO of Florida Hospital Altamonte.

In 2008, the 341-bed facility will serve nearly 200,000 patients as the most comprehensive hospital in Seminole County, Florida.

Florida Hospital leadership selected GetWellNetwork after an extensive study of the overall patient experience. The research showed that 60 percent of a patient's day was spent alone in their room with little engagement other than daytime television.

"We found that the GetWellNetwork system offered such a rich interactive experience for our patients. We are thrilled to be able to provide an enhanced care experience and do more to speed the journey to health and wellness," said Sy Saliba, senior vice president, Florida Hospital.

The GetWellNetwork solution empowers patients and families by placing them at the center of their own care experience. The PatientLife System turns the television in the patient room into an interactive resource during a hospital stay. By using a wireless keyboard, touch screen or other handheld devices, patients interact with the system to access valuable education, communication and entertainment tools. This innovative technology is called Interactive Patient Care (IPC) -- enabling healthcare organizations to deliver true patient-centered care and proven to help improve the cost, quality and service of care delivery.

"GetWellNetwork is delighted to be working with Florida Hospital as its partner for Interactive Patient Care," said Michael O'Neil, Jr., founder and CEO of GetWellNetwork, Inc. "Florida Hospital shares an unwavering commitment to the patient experience and understands the role a patient plays in their own safety while in the hospital. Together, we can measurably impact the way patients and families experience their care, and we look forward to a productive partnership that benefits patients, families and caregivers."
