Respiratory Therapists to Offer Free Lung Tests at Annual Conference in Orlando

DALLAS, Nov. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- The American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC) will be offering free lung tests at the Marks Street Senior Recreation Complex (99 East Marks Street, Orlando) on Monday, Dec. 3 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
The "Your Lung Health Event" is being done as a community service by respiratory therapists from around the country -- the professionals who care for lung patients in hospitals and medical centers. They will be giving spirometry tests, blood pressure checks, oximetry readings and testing for Alpha-1, a genetic form of COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease).
"This is an opportunity for diagnosed and undiagnosed patients to receive a free lung check up from experts in lung health," said Toni Rodriguez, president of the AARC. "For anyone who suffers from a chronic cough, excess mucus or just has trouble breathing, this is an opportunity to get questions answered and learn more about the condition of their lungs."
More than 7,000 respiratory therapists from around the country will be in Orlando, Florida Dec. 1-4 for the International Respiratory Congress, a national meeting organized by the AARC during the association's 60th anniversary. The annual meeting is organized to offer continuing education to respiratory therapists, presenting the latest scientific evidence on the care and treatment of respiratory conditions and the newest and most advanced respiratory technology.
The keynote speaker at this year's conference will be John W. Walsh, president & chief executive officer of the Alpha-1 Foundation, a patient advocacy group dedicated to providing the leadership and resources that will result in increased research, improved health, worldwide detection, and a cure for Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency.
