Drexel University's School of Public Health Faculty Experts Available to Discuss the Aftermath of Tsunami

Faculty experts from Drexel University's School of Public Health are available to assist the news media in its continuing coverage of the tsunami that hit Southeast Asia. Public health experts include:

Infectious Diseases

Dr. Marla Gold, dean of Drexel's School of Public Health, can comment on the health risks for the survivors of the tsunami and measures they can take to decrease the possibility of illness.

Children's Health and Rights

Dr. Mariana Chilton, professor of community health and prevention, can assess the impact of hunger and food insecurity on the women and children affected by the tsunami. Her research focuses on nutritional status and human rights.

Environmental and Occupational Health

Dr. Arthur Frank, chair of the department of environmental and occupational health, is a commissioned officer in the United States Public Health Service with extensive international experience and experience in South Asia. He can comment on all environmental and public health safety issues.

Dr. Curtis Cummings, professor of environmental and occupational health, can comment on preventative medicine and occupational health. He was commissioned in the U.S. Public Health Service Corps for almost a decade.

Psychosocial Health

Dr. Kane Mossey, professor of epidemiology and biostatistics, can comment on the psychosocial health of older individuals in the tsunami-affected area as well as around the world. She holds degrees in psychiatric nursing and can also comment on the psychology of the nurses treating those injured by the tsunami.

Emergency Response

Dr. Peter Rumm, director of Drexel's new Center for Public Health Readiness, can comment on how communities should respond to natural disasters and crises.
