PLANS to improve health services in Morpeth and the surrounding area are closer to fruition.
The boards of Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and Northumberland Care Trust have given the go-ahead for a business case to be developed for a new NHS centre in Morpeth for outpatients and diagnostic services; the development of a specialist combined stroke unit at Wansbeck General Hospital; the transfer of rehabilitation beds from Morpeth Cottage Hospital to Wansbeck General Hospital and beds in Morpeth for local residents for rehabilitation and end-of-life care.
