INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. and WATERTOWN, Mass., Dec. 5, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- athenahealth, Inc., a leading provider of Internet-based business services to physician practices, and the Indiana State Medical Association (ISMA), the state's leading medical physician organization, today announced an agreement to offer athenahealth's centrally-hosted practice management services to over 8,400 ISMA physician members to help drive increased operational and financial outcomes. Under the terms of the agreement, ISMA members will receive a discount on athenahealth's services.
"The ISMA leaders are confident in athenahealth's ability to provide accurate, efficient, and cost-effective on-demand business solutions to improve the business of medicine for Indiana physicians," stated Dr. Jon Marhenke, ISMA president. "As the twelfth state medical association to endorse and recommend athenahealth to member physicians, we recognize athenahealth as the premier solution in today's medical practice environment."
athenahealth's on-demand practice management and billing service, athenaCollector(sm), integrates web-based practice management software, a continually updated payer rules knowledgebase and back-office processing specialists into a single service. athenahealth's services allow physician practices to optimize collections under new reimbursement trends in the marketplace, such as pay-for-performance (P4P) programs and consumer-directed health care plans, while helping to ensure compliance with best-practice guidelines.
"Indiana joins a growing list of state medical societies that are looking to leverage our on-demand business services to drive consistent financial outcomes for their physician member communities," said Nancy Brown, Senior Vice President of Business Development and Government Affairs for athenahealth. "With athenahealth's services being delivered on a single Internet-based application and our shared rules knowledgebase of millions of payer reimbursement requirements integrated with our back office service operations, ISMA members will now benefit from the collective experience of our entire national physician network."
The ISMA will also look to educate its members on payer behaviors through athenahealth's PayerView(sm) Ranking initiative. The PayerView data is derived from athenahealth's web-native athenaNet(r) system database, and ranks health insurers according to specific measures of financial, administrative performance, and medical policy complexity. Launched in 2006, PayerView has emerged as an industry-unique tool allowing physicians to make better, data-based decisions about whether to continue working with certain payers.
