Support for Union Members is Strong: Sheet Metal Workers Local 12 to Benefit From a Members Assistance Program

Posted on: Wednesday, 12 December 2007, 15:00 CST

Managed Health Network, Inc. (MHN), a subsidiary of Health Net, Inc. (NYSE:HNT), today announced MHN's appointment as the first ever Member Assistance Program provider for the Sheet Metal Workers Local 12 in Pittsburgh, Pa., effective January 1, 2008.

For the first time, Local 12 is providing confidential work-life and emotional health services for the union's 1,206 members. The Member Assistance Program is designed to help union members and their dependents manage stressful life events (such as a death in the family, a traumatic accident or divorce); overcome substance abuse, tobacco dependency and depression; and make positive behavior changes that result in healthier lifestyles. A confidential toll-free telephone call is generally the first point of contact for members, and services are delivered predominantly through face-to-face and telephonic consultations and online member services.

Increasingly, unions are including a Member Assistance Program provision in their collective bargaining efforts. MHN is proud to meet this growing need.

"We're very happy to have an opportunity to serve the Sheet Metal Workers Local 12 Welfare Fund," says MHN CEO and president Steve Sell. "The Member Assistance Program will provide a helping hand for members whenever they need it. We can help members resolve family conflicts, find help for depression, tackle debt, find child care services -- and so much more."

This appointment demonstrates MHN's continued focus on supporting the needs of Labor and Trust in the area of work-life and emotional health balance.
