Bethesda Memorial Hospital Receives $2.7 Million Gift to Open the Walter S. And Lucienne Driskill Endovascular Center

Bethesda Memorial Hospital and Bethesda Hospital Foundation are proud to announce a $2.7 million gift to build the Walter S. and Lucienne Driskill Endovascular Center. This new, state-of-the-art endovascular center will allow surgeons to care for patients with vascular problems, using minimally invasive procedures. Thanks to these new minimally invasive techniques, patients will be able to receive a superior level of care, with less discomfort and shorter recovery times.
With a goal to shift from conventional open operations to catheter-based surgical interventions, the Driskill Endovascular Center will specialize in treating patients with thoracic aneurysms and stenoses, or blockages, of the carotid arteries.
The Driskill Endovascular Center's team will be led by vascular surgeons George Mueller, M.D., Miguel A. Lopez-Viego, M.D., and Jesus Jimenez, M.D., and Thomas A. Abbruzzese, M.D., who will be relocating to South Florida from Massachusetts General Hospital, where he has been the Clinical and Research Fellow in the Division of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery for the last 2 years.
Mrs. Driskill's gift represents the largest gift to Bethesda Memorial Hospital that has ever been secured by a single physician, to date. Long-time Boynton Beach resident and physician, George Mueller, M.D. is credited for having the vision to work with Mrs. Driskill to develop the new Endovascular Center at Bethesda.
The Driskill Endovascular Center is the second Driskill-named facility at Bethesda Memorial Hospital, after Mrs. Driskill provided a permanent endowment for the Driskill Center of Caring Excellence in 2004, which provides training to all staff members who provide patient care to integrate caring skills with clinical excellence.
"When you combine the efforts of Mrs. Driskill, who has been such a wonderful supporter of our hospital, and the dedication of Dr. Mueller, who is such a highly respected physician in our community, you have the ingredients for a truly innovative concept in patient care," said Robert B. Hill, President and CEO of Bethesda Memorial Hospital. "Bethesda is truly grateful for this collaboration, and we know that our patients will reap tremendous benefits by having this new center," Hill added. The Driskill Endovascular Center will open summer 2008.
