Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Emergency Operations Center and Joint Information Center Activated for Winter Storm Response
HARRISBURG, Pa., Dec. 13 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — The state’s emergency operations and joint information centers went to Level II at 11 a.m. in response to today’s winter storm.
The emergency operations center activation will support county emergency services and coordinate state resources in anticipation of the severe winter storm that is expected to affect parts of the commonwealth.
“Weather conditions across the state will deteriorate this afternoon and into the evening and it is important to be proactive in responding to emergency needs that may arise,” said Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency Director Robert P. French.
The joint information center staff may be reached at 717-651-2731 for information on the state’s response to the winter storm. PEMA is working with PennDOT, the Pennsylvania State Police, Public Utility Commission, Civil Air Patrol and the National Weather Service, as well as county and local officials in the affected areas to coordinate information about the storm.
French said traveling during the storm should be avoided, if possible. During winter storms motorists are urged to stay off highways to allow snowplows to do their jobs.
If travel is required, motorists should be prepared by carrying emergency food, water, medical supplies and blankets.
