The Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition Hosts Seminar on Free Breast Cancer Treatment Program

PHILADELPHIA, Dec. 14 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Free treatment is available to women diagnosed with breast cancer without insurance coverage in Pennsylvania. The difficulty is that many women -- and many healthcare providers -- are not aware of the program and how it can work to benefit breast cancer patients. That is why the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition (PBCC) organized a seminar on free treatment available through the Breast and Cervical Cancer Free Treatment Program (BCCFTP), held this past June, inviting those familiar with the program. The goal of the seminar was to present information on the program to those healthcare providers who can then assist women in need of free breast cancer treatment.
The seminar was held today at GlaxoSmithKline Oncology. Participants of the summer seminar were asked to find out what was necessary for facilities to participate in the program and what obstacles, if any, there were to full participation.
"No woman with breast cancer should be denied treatment -- regardless of their insurance situation," said Pat Halpin-Murphy, President and Founder of the PBCC. "At this meeting, we sought to further empower those who care for breast cancer patients to ensure that healthcare providers are doing all they can to participate in this vital program."
The PBCC plans to replicate the educational seminar and follow-up meeting in all regions of the state over the course of the next year. Too many women have been denied the treatment they deserve because they, and/or their doctors, are unaware of this free treatment program.
The PA Breast Cancer Coalition represents, supports and serves breast cancer survivors and their families in Pennsylvania through educational programming, legislative advocacy and unique outreach initiatives. The PBCC is a statewide non-profit organization that creates the hope of a brighter tomorrow by providing action and information to women with breast cancer today.
