Ten Young People Honored As Champions of Health and Wellness in Their Communities

Del Monte Foods and Do Something today named the ten winners of the Del Monte Do Something Good for You! Grants. This Fall, hundreds of young people from across the country submitted their healthy living ideas and programs designed to educate kids and families on how they can lead healthier, more active lives.

Hailing from seven different states and ranging from ages 6 to 25, the ten winners will receive a $2,500 Good for You! Grant to help them expand their healthy living program in their community.

“Strong body, strong mind, strong community,” said Do Something CEO Nancy Lublin. “If you want to change the world, you’ve got to start with yourself. Major kudos to these ten amazing world changers who not only want to help themselves, but help their friends, family and neighbors live a more healthy lifestyle.”

Lizzie Marie, 6, Woodstock GA — Tasty Tidbits: Education Today for a Healthier Tomorrow… Created a series of cooking shows for airing in hospitals to teach nutrition and healthy cooking

Tyler Burdick, 16, Flint Hill, VA — Rappahannock Country Fitness Trail… Working to construct a fitness trail with fitness stations to help local residents get fit

Theresa Yost, 25, Morristown, NJ — Get Moving/Get Healthy with Food and Fitness Ambassadors… Program trains local teens to teach fun, hands-on lessons that focus on healthy lifestyles to local 4th graders

Jacqueline Rotman, 16, Santa Barbara, GA — Everybody Dance Now… Free dance classes for underprivileged youth to give them chance to exercise, set goals and have fun

Sandie Walker, 24, York, PA — Healthy Eating Program for Lady Bearcat Basketball… Provides inner-city school athletes with healthy food choices for their busy and active lifestyles

Bryan Devore, 21, Denton, TX — Start Caring Wellness, Inc…. Five-week fitness camps provide safe, fun environment for adults and kids to live healthy through teamwork and commitment

Devin Clevenger, 17, Chapel Hill, TN — The Party Veggies… Created a colorful and engaging program for school-age children to learn about healthy living and nutrition

Sarah Krull, 23, Chicago, IL — Healthy Kids, Healthy Planet… Programs develops lessons on topics such as ‘Your Are What You Eat,’ ‘Journey of Your Food,’ and more while building an interactive garden

Christine Douglas, 11, Allison Park, PA — Fun with Fitness and Freggies… Christine’s Girl Scout troop will produce DVD’s featuring exercise routines and nutrition tips aimed at young children

Kathryn Klock, 17, Newton, KS — User Friendly Weight Room… Project aims to open the door to a healthy lifestyle for students not on sports teams by building an exercise room with trainers at school
