Explore Health Science Options at PTPL
THE objective of a health science programme is to produce graduates who are competent and compassionate practitioners of the medical arts, schooled in medical biology and patient care.
Many private and public institutions offer a quality programme that would enable graduates to land a job quickly. But it is crucial that students choose the most appropriate field to study at the tertiary level.

Likewise, the diploma in medical laboratory technology produces medical laboratory technologist who will provide support and assistance in the health science field.
The role of a medical laboratory technologist is to assist doctors in the diagnostic stage of identifying patients’ illnesses.
They are trained to conduct experiments on patient’s samples, such as pus, sputum, urine, faeces, blood and cerebrospinal fluids.
Diploma graduates are eligible to join degree programmes in health-science-related disciplines. Among the fields are biomedicine, bioinformatics, food technology, biotechnology and microbiology.
In addition, they are also eligible to pursue further studies in medicine, dentistry or pharmacy. This is parallel to the government’s aim to increases the number of professionals in health sciences.
Graduates from PTPL’s diploma in medical laboratory technology may pursue degrees in biomedicine, bioinformatics or food service technology.
Another alternative is the MBBS at the International Medical School in Bangalore, through the Management & Science University (MSU).
Graduates can also opt to pursue their degrees through the International Student Exchange Programme Unit in India and Indonesia, namely the Ramaiah Medical College (India), Universitas Airlangga, Universitas Andalas, Universitas Sumatera Utara and University of Indonesia.
The degrees in medicine, dentistry and pharmacy are recognised by the Public Service Department and Malaysian Medical Council.
PTPL graduates enjoy great employment prospects and they may join the government sector through the Health Ministry.
The common requirement for admission is the SPM or its equivalent with credits in three subjects, including Bahasa Malaysia, Mathematics and Science. However, students with only a credit in one subject may join the certificate in health sciences before progressing to the diploma level. Intakes are commencing now.
PTPL will assist students in securing financial assistance from the National Higher Fund Corporation and other sponsoring bodies.
