Colusa
Coats giveaway slated Jan. 12
A “Coats for Kids” coat giveaway is slated from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 12 at Burchfield Elementary School, 400 Fremont St., Colusa.
The program is for people of all ages in need of a winter coat.
Organized locally by Impact Life and the Colusa County Department of Behavioral Health, the project is sponsored by Channel 10 and the Salvation Army.
Persons interested in volunteering during the giveaway may call 458-0589.
Yuba-sutter
Free ham-radio classes offered
Yuba-Sutter Amateur Radio Club is offering free amateur radio license classes twice a week beginning Jan. 8 at the American Red Cross office, 2125 E. Onstott Frontage Road, Yuba City.
Classes will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Topics include radio theory, Federal Communications Commission regulations and safety requirements.
An examination for the technician-class license will be administered at the end of the course.

Yuba County
Youth safety awards open
The Public Health Division of Yuba County Health and Human Services, is sponsoring its annual Youth Encouraging Safe Streets, or YESS, Award, open to any Yuba County youth group that meets in Yuba County.
The topic is “Community Safety.”
Groups — five or more children between the grades of four and six with one adult supervisor — will have from Feb. 20 to April 24 to look for safety hazards within communities in the county and investigate possible solutions.
All groups must attend an orientation meeting at 6 p.m. Feb. 20 at the Health and Human Services Department, Yuba River Room, 5730 Packard Ave., Linda.
On April 24, representatives from each group will present their project to a panel of community safety officials. The top three groups will receive awards at 6 p.m. May 6 during the Yuba County Board of Supervisors meeting in Marysville.
