Olaton Couple Die in Ohio County Crash
By Beth Wilberding, Messenger-Inquirer, Owensboro, Ky.
Jan. 2–A couple from Olaton were killed in a car accident near Hartford on Tuesday morning.
James B. Moses Jr., 72, and his wife, Klela Mae Moses, 69, were killed when the van Moses was driving collided with a truck and trailer driven by Todd M. Taylor, 29, of Hartford.
None of them was wearing a seat belt.
The accident took place at 11:04 a.m. at the intersection of Kentucky 69 and Cedar Grove Church Road.
James Moses made a complete stop at the intersection, a witness told police, then turned left onto Kentucky 69, according to a Kentucky State Police report.
Moses appeared to fail to yield to Taylor’s right of way, according to police reports. The van’s front driver’s side hit the front of the truck.
Both vehicles went off the west side of Kentucky 69, the report states.
Trooper Jerry Critchelow said skid marks show Taylor wasn’t traveling very fast. Both Moses and his wife were pronounced dead at the scene by Ohio County Coroner Jerry Bevil.
Taylor was taken to the Ohio County Hospital in a privately owned vehicle for treatment, and a hospital official said Taylor had been treated and released.
Traffic was blocked for about two hours while the road was cleared. Officials don’t think alcohol was a factor, and the accident is still under investigation.
The Hartford Police Department, Hartford Fire Department, Ohio County Ambulance Service, Ohio County Sheriff’s Office and Ohio County Coroner’s office responded to the accident.
