Doctors say the health of former Indonesian President Suharto was improving after treatment at a Jakarta hospital.

Dr. Mardjo Soebandiono at Pertamina Hospital said Suharto’s health improved following dialysis treatment and a blood transfusion, the Jakarta Post said Sunday.

Suharto, 86, suffered from anemia and an excess of fluids surrounding his organs when he was rushed to the hospital Friday, the newspaper said.

Suharto was forced from office in 1998 amid mass demonstrations and allegations of corruption.
