Britain to Launch Health Screening

British Prime Minister Gordon Brown on Monday unveiled a first-of-its-kind national health screening program, part of efforts to renew healthcare initiatives.

The program would screen for early indicators of strokes, diabetes, kidney disease and heart problems, along with other wellness tests, The Guardian said. Such tests are now only available to private patients.

The government-funded screening program would be the first of its kind in the world, the paper said. It’s operated under England’s National Health Service.

It remains one of the most trusted organizations in British society, its doctors, nurses and staff recognized by everyone as a force for good in our country, Brown said Monday. This is why renewal of the NHS will be our highest priority.
