WASHINGTON, Jan. 10 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Richard A. Raymond, M.D., Under Secretary for Food Safety, Food Safety and Inspection Service, at the U.S. Department of Agriculture and Tevi D. Troy, Ph.D., Deputy Secretary, at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, will be speaking at the Food and Drug Law Institute's food safety conference Jan. 24, 2008, FDLI announced today.
Several recent high profile recalls regarding pathogens in fresh produce and meat, and contaminants in animal and human food have triggered an evaluation of the safety of the United States food supply. These incidents have forced firms in the food industry to deal with multiple legislative initiatives, heightened regulatory pressures and an increasingly skeptical and aggressive media.
To explore these issues, FDLI is sponsoring Food Safety: Problems & Solutions --- Experts Discuss What Needs to Be Done and Predict What Will Happen, at The Madison Hotel in Washington, D.C.
This FDLI program will examine the most significant food safety issues facing the industry from the perspective of the industry, government, consumer groups and other thought leaders. The program also will explore various legislative initiatives and evaluate the impact the proposed legislation would have on the industry.
