Memorial Board Picks Interim CEO
By The Gazette, Colorado Springs, Colo.
Jan. 15–Memorial Health System’s board of trustees Monday named Dr. Larry McEvoy interim chief executive officer.
Dick Eitel, CEO for the past five years and an employee of the cityowned health care system for 33 years, said in December that he will retire this year, and Monday he announced a retirement date of March 31.
Eitel plans to attend law school and spend more time with his family.
“Under Dick’s leadership, Memorial has achieved great success, and we thank him sincerely for his many years of service,” said board Chairman Mike Edmonds.
McEvoy has worked at Memorial for three months as chief medical officer. He received his medical degree from Stanford University and residency training at Hennepin County Hospital in Minneapolis.
He previously worked in executive leadership roles at the Billings Clinic, a multispecialty hospital in Billings, Mont. He also has been an emergency room physician and a consultant on hospital leadership, strategy, operations and personnel.
Edmonds said McEvoy was selected to fill in as head of the health care system because of his “energetic engaging leadership style in combination with his significant clinical and administrative experience.”
The board will appoint a search committee and expects it will take several months to select a new CEO, Edmonds said.
