Tenet Healthcare Corporation (NYSE: THC) today announced that 34 hospitals have received 22 designations as UnitedHealth Premium® Surgical Spine and Total Joint Replacement Specialty Centers and 75 designations for Cardiovascular Surgery, Electrophysiology and Interventional Cardiology.

These designations mean that the hospitals have met rigorous quality criteria based on nationally recognized medical standards and expert advice. Hospitals must meet or exceed UnitedHealthcare’s criteria based on detailed information about programmatic structure, patient care processes and clinical outcomes that are submitted by the hospital to UnitedHealthcare.

“These designations reflect our hospitals’ commitment to providing quality cardiac and orthopedic care,” said Stephen L. Newman, M.D., Tenet’s chief operating officer and acting chief medical officer. “The designations our hospitals received exceeded the national average for all hospitals contracted with UnitedHealthcare. This demonstrates that our hospitals and staff deliver care that exceeds nationally recognized standards and ensures that our patients can be confident they are getting high quality treatment. Programs like the UnitedHealth Premium® Specialty Center help patients make informed decisions about where to seek care.”

Sam Ho, M.D., executive vice president and chief medical officer at UnitedHealthcare, stated that consumers need to know that they are getting quality treatment. “Our goal is to enhance the overall quality of care for our customers and enrollees, The UnitedHealth Premium designation signals to all consumers that these hospitals meet or exceed nationally recognized standards of care.”
