Bill Thomas (R-CA) and Chairman, Ways and Means and Patrick J. Kennedy (D-RI) Presenting 'Republican and Democratic Perspectives on Health Care Policy and Legislative Action in 2005' February 1, 2005 at the World Health Care Congress

WASHINGTON, Jan. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Representatives Bill Thomas (R-CA) and Patrick Kennedy (D-RI) will present the closing keynote speeches, "Republican and Democratic Perspectives on Health Care Policy and Legislative Action in 2005", on February 1, 2005 at the World Health Care Congress, Washington D.C.

Representative Bill Thomas, Chairman of the Ways and Means Committee, will give the closing keynote address, "Republican Perspective on Health Care Policy and Legislative Action in 2005", from 2:30 p.m. to 3:15 p.m.

Thomas has been Chairman of the Ways and Means Committee since January 2001. In this time, he authored the Medicare Modernization and Prescription Drug Act. Thomas has also served as Chairman of the Ways and Means Health Subcommittee, where he helped pass the "Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996" and authored the "Medicare Preservation Act". Thomas also served as the Administrative Chairman of the National Bipartisan Commission on the Future of Medicare.

Representative Patrick Kennedy will give the closing keynote address, "Democratic Perspective on Health Care Policy and Legislative Action in 2005", from 3:15 - 3:45 p.m.

As a member of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education, Kennedy oversees much federal spending on health care. He strongly supported the doubling of funding for the National Institutes of Health and public health efforts through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and has sought to encourage and support systematic reform in various aspects of health care delivery. He is also the co-founder and co-chairman of the House 21st Century Health Care Caucus and the House Addiction Treatment and Recovery Caucus.
