Aetna (NYSE: AET) announced today that it has awarded a $25,000 grant to the Modern Maturity Center in Dover, Del.
The grant will help fund the organization's Day Break adult care program, a supervised daytime program that provides an enriching environment for functionally impaired older adults. The program aims to avoid or forestall placing people in institutions by giving them medical supervision, personal care assistance, nutritious meals, social and recreation programs, and transportation.
"Day Break is a valuable program that provides a home away from home for older adults with special needs," said Donald Sanzone, Aetna's Retiree Markets sales manager for Delaware. "It helps them function better on social, mental, emotional and physical levels and enhances the quality of their lives. Aetna is proud to be associated with such an admirable effort."
The Aetna grant will be used to provide interim scholarship funding for Day Break participants, allowing for increased attendance by augmenting what families are able to pay toward the cost of the program.
Since 1969, the Modern Maturity Center has been committed to providing programs and services that enhance the quality of life, with dignity and respect, for individuals age 50+. The Modern Maturity Center is a non-profit organization that provides nutrition, education, recreation and fitness opportunities for older adults in Central Delaware.
"Because of organizations such as Aetna, who share our vision of supporting the needs of older adults through programs such as Day Break, we are able to fulfill our mission and provide valuable services for the older adults of Kent County," said Carolyn Fredricks, executive director of the Modern Maturity Center. "We look forward to future collaborations with Aetna, its employees and customers."
